More Money More Happiness ?
We earn money so that we can enjoy life better by consuming the things money can buy. But, what is ironical is the fact that we don't need money for most of the "happinesses" in the world. Friendship, familial bliss, and peace of mind through meditation do not need the filthy lucre. In stead, obsession with money can be a source of distress and depression, forcing people to sacrifice many of the natural gifts they already have.
One of the most important gifts is the inherent quality of being able to enjoy every day to the fullest by being happy. Happiness is and has never been related in any way with the amount of money one has. In fact, money can only buy things, whether we are happy with buying or not buying such things is up to us.
It is nothing but a mirage that true riches comes from availability of a large sum of money at one's disposal, in stead true riches comes from satisfaction with what one has. "santosham param sukham" (satisfaction is the greatest happiness).
Due to the rajasik(worldliness) and tamasik(illusion) overdose due to mass media and from the bias passed down to us from generation to generation, we become a victim of this erroneous thought process which becomes a cause of tension, strain, and depression. Our indifference toward satva(truthfulness), is the root cause behind our obsession with the filthy lucre.
Money is an economic tool to but things which are necessary to survive like food, clothes, shelter, etc. Other than that, it only serves as an instrument of corruption of the character through lust and greed !
